Hey babes, we often get asked the question on how you can find your personal style. From experience, it takes some trial and error but once you pinpoint your style the easy part begins.
Step One: Compile a list of your fav style icons. The likelihood of finding a single style icon that defines you? Kinda low. Most people are more of a mix of a few people. The best way to go about this would be to create a pinterest board with all your favourite fashion looks. You’ll start to see a collection of repeat people who you can look to for inspiration.
Step Two: Put a label on it. Take a second pass at your inspiration photos, look beyond the names, and focus on the outfits. Pick a few words to describe the vibe of the looks. Are they ladylike, modern, edgy, bohemian, or classic? Settle on a handful of words that feel true to your style, and write them down for future reference, as they will help you clarify and define your look.
Step Three: Choose a signature piece. Audrey Hepburn had her cropped pants and ballet flats and Jackie O. had her oversized sunglasses. All fashionable women own a signature item or two to define who they are. It can even be as simple as a piece of jewelry.
Identify the Odd Pieces: If you;re not really sure what your style is the best way to find out would be to go through your closet and identify the items that are different from the rest. For example if your closet consists of mainly nude colours and you find a random boho dress, go off of that! Chances are, your odd piece out symbolizes a style you like, but aren’t fully comfortable trying. If you’re aiming to evolve your look or try something new, consider going after pieces that feel more like that aspirational item.
Play up your Strengths: Is there something people compliment you on? It can be your back, arms, stomach, legs, etc. Use this to your advantage and dress in clothing that emphasizes your assets…..literally!
Final Package: Don’t forget that finding your style consists of the finishing touches too! To look your best self, work on a makeup and hair look that you like as well. It doesn’t have to be crazy- remember stay true to yourself and have fun with it!
